Installing and configuring the ownCloud server

  1. Download the latest ownCloud package.
     wget https://download.owncloud.org/community/ownCloud-10.4.1-qa.tar.bz2

  2. Extract the ownCloud-10.4.1.tar.bz2 tarball file to the /var/www/ directory.
     sudo tar -jxf ownCloud-10.4.1.tar.bz2 -C /var/www/

  3. Configure the Apache webserver to serve the ownCloud application by creating a new deployment configuration.
     sudo nano /etc/httpd/conf.d/ownCloud.conf

    Append the following to ownCloud.conf:

     Alias /ownCloud "/var/www/ownCloud/"
     <Directory /var/www/ownCloud/>
       Options +FollowSymlinks
       AllowOverride All
      <IfModule mod_dav.c>
       Dav off
      </IfModule>
      SetEnv HOME /var/www/ownCloud
      SetEnv HTTP_HOME /var/www/ownCloud
     </Directory>

    Save and exit the file, and restart the webserver.

     	sudo systemctl restart httpd

  4. Allow the Apache webserver to write to ownCloud’s directory under SELinux.
     sudo setsebool -P httpd_unified 1

  5. Create the administrator ownCloud user. Visit http://127.0.0.1/owncloud in a web browser on the host where you have installed the ownCloud server. The first time you enter the site, you will be prompted to create an administrator username and password. Use this account to administer ownCloud and manage users.

  6. At first launch of the ownCloud server, you also need to configure the database. Select MySQL/MariaDB as the database from the Storage & database drop-down menu. Enter the database name, administrator username and password that you created when configuring the MariaDB database.
